Is your Butterfly Cage or Milkweed killing your Monarch larvae?

Educational Science has been breeding Monarch butterflies for over 20-years and has helped customers solve rearing problems. The three main issues leading to caterpillar death are contaminated milkweed, improper butterfly rearing cages, and improper rearing methods and techniques. Contaminated Milkweed- Monarch larvae can die because wild collected milkweed is not properly washed, sanitized with a 5% bleach solution, thoroughly rinsed and completely dried prior to feeding monarch larvae. Pesticide Contaminated Milkweed- Monarch larvae can die because the milkweed sold at most nurseries are sprayed with pesticides or are contaminated with pesticide over-spray. While most nurseries will tell you they do not spray their milkweed, most either spray or will tell you that the plants were contaminated with over-spray or mosquito control pesticides. If your plant is free of Aphids you should be concerned. Improper Poorly Designed Butterfly Rearing Cages or Containers The proper butterfly rearing cage should be: 1.Easy to clean and sanitize to prevent disease outbreaks. 2. Escape proof 3. Meet APHIS specifications for a parasitoid-proof enclosure with 60+ threads per inch 4. Have a built in easy to clean water-resistant cloth bottom 5. Keep out pest like ants, aphids, wasp, trips, --- and other pest 6. Well ventilated for healthy air flow Educational Science butterfly cages, terrariums, and Lepidtariums are designed to the highest standards and have been tested by professional butterfly breeders.
