Hummingbird Hawkmoth Student kit with Certificate for 6-10 larvae (THW61)

$24.00
Manduca sexta, also known as the Tobacco Hornworm in its larval stage, and as the Hummingbird Hawkmoth or Sphinx moth in its adult stage, is an excellent species for classroom lifecycle study or as a model for scientific research. The larvae are large, easy to rear on artificial diet, and most important they are disease resistant. The caterpillar eats primarily tobacco and tomato leaves and the adult is a nectar feeder. At room temperature the larval stage last between 3-4 weeks and the pupal stage about one month or less. Typical of most sphnigid moths, the hummingbird hawkmoth is a wonderful flier with a five inch wingspan and like the hummingbird, can hover in flight and feed without landing. Hummingbird Hawkmoth (Manduca sexta) Student kit with Certificate for 6-12 larvae, Instant microwave artificial diet, 24 oz rearing cup with plastic scaffolding, observation/pupation chamber, pupation media, emergence cage, and complete instructions. For immediate shipment of the live material order the THW61A. Recommended Optional cages: Pop-Up Butterfly Terrarium LH30(flight cage) or LH175 (breeding cage).
